Manila, Philippines – On Sunday, lawyer Lorenzo Gadon, who filed an impeachment case against Chief Justice Maria Lourdes Sereno said that he received an information that an “oligarch” is planning to bribe senators.

Gadon is still verifying the information, but was told that this “oligarch” plans to entice the senators with P200 million to ensure that the chief Justice will be acquitted in an impeachment trial.

Gadon said.

Earlier, following the testimony of Associate Justice Terestita de Castro, House Speaker Pantaleon Alvarez believes that CJ Sereno is now in serious trouble.

De Castro said that Sereno ‘misled’ her for the ratification of an order and other issues.

Alvarez also said that Sereno could resort to diversionary tactics to remedy her situation which was aggravated by her continued refusal to attend the impeachment proceedings by the House Committee which was led by Oriental Mindoro Representative Reynaldo Umali.

“Publicity style, [she could resort to such] to divert the real issue since she herself could not confront the real issues,” Alvarez said.

Though Gadon refused to name the supposed oligarch, he said;

Gadon, however, believes that the senators are “dignified” and they can think on their own.

The House Committee is set to continue its hearing on Tuesday.
