Manila, Philippines – The Department of Social Welfare and
Development (DSWD) has released a total of Php10 million to construct the
classroom buildings and daycare centers in Malungon in the province of Sarangani.
On Tuesday, Malungon Mayor Maria Theresa Constantino
announced that the preparation are underway for the implementation of the project,
funded by Bottom-Up Budgeting (BUB)
program.
This school development project is supported by the United Nations
Development Program (UNDP).
Constantino added that the municipal government has an
allocated funding of P1.45 million for the construction of around four classrooms
and four day care centers.
The project includes one unit of three-classroom building for
the Malungon National High School, then one classroom for Lamlangil Elementary
School. There is also another one unit of daycare center building each for the
municipal government in Sitio Nanima, Poblacion, Barangay Malungon and
Malandag.
“This is a convergence initiative aimed to enhance our
ongoing education programs,” Constantino said, adding the municipal government’s
flagship Innovation and Collaboration in Attaining No limitation in Education
or I-CAN program.
This is also in partnership with the Department of
Education, the program aims to ensure and provide easy access to quality
education for all young learners in the area.
The municipal government had adopted a reading and mentoring
program from public schools to help improve the performance of those young
learners in remote areas.
Furthermore, the program was established and launched 10
years ago, in response to the assessment that areas with high rate of poverty instances
in the municipality got low education performance among learners.
There will be more projects in Malungon facilitated by DSWD
through the conditional transfer of the Pantawid Pamliyang Pilipino Program
(4Ps) and a World Bank assisted program.
