Could this be one of those “Birds of the same feather , flock together”
kind of situations?
Chief Justice Maria Lourdes Sereno has been
deluged of calls from the different members of the society for her resignation.
As a matter of fact in her own backyard members of the judiciary and court
employees had just concluded its 2nd Red Monday protest in the
yesterday’s flag ceremony urging the top magistrate to spare the High court
from politics by resigning her post.
Sereno has quashed any hopes of her
resigning from being the Chief Justice, she has even declared she will be ready
to defend her position in the impeachment court when that opportunity arrives,
the Chief Justice is referring to the Senate acting as an impeachment
court.
Vice President Maria Leonor “ Leni” Robredo
weighs on the issue regarding the calls of resignation of the Chief Justice.
Robredo stated that the calls for Sereno’s resignation will set a bad
precedent.
“Masamang precedent ito, masamang precedent
kasi merong attempt na naman na i-shortcut itong proseso na labas sa
Konstitusyon,” Robredo said.
“Meron nang impeachment proceedings na
ongoing sa House. Respetuhin natin ang proseso,” she added.
A joint manifestation has been issued by
the by the The Philippine
Judges Association (PJA), Supreme Court Employees Association (SCEA), Supreme
Court Assembly of Lawyer Employees (SCALE), Philippine Association of Court Employees
(PACE) and the Sandiganbayan Employees Association (SEA) calling for Chief
Justice Maria Lourdes Sereno’s resignation.
The joint
Lourdes P.A.
puwesto bilang Punong Mahistrado o Chief Justice (We, the entire force of the judiciary, which includes
judges, officials and court employees under your leadership, are pleading you,
our beloved Chief Justice Ma. Lourdes Sereno, to do the timely and necessary
sacrifice for the institution that you gave so much time and love in these past
year. We are calling for the benefit of the entire Filipino community, to step
down to your post as Chief Justice).”
Some lawmakers from the House of
Representatives Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque have also called on
Sereno to resign.
The CJ refuses to heed from the calls of
her resignation, and vows to answer everything at the Senate when it acts as an
impeachment court.
