Manila Archbishop Luis Antonio Cardinal Tagle has recently
urged priests to inform the Catholic faithful of the lay group People’s Choice
Movement (PCM)'s choices for senator in the coming elections on Monday.
“I urge you to share this initiative of the lay faithful
with the lay groups, youth organizations, circles of discernment in your parish
as a guide to their own discernment,” he said
Earlier, the PCH has declared its support for Gary Alejano,
Paolo Benigno “Bam” Aquino, Neri Colmenares, Jose Manuel “Chel” Diokno, Samira
Gutoc, Florin Hilbay, Romulo Macalintal, Grace Poe, Mar Roxas and Erin Tanada.
The PCM’s list consists of all the members of the opposition
slate Otso Diretso except for Poe.
For this, former Presidential Spokesman Edwin Lacerda has
lauded Tagle for his support, saying it was a “courageous act”.
“Since Cardinal Sin, this is the first time the putative
head of the PH Catholic Church has spoken on choices. Zeitgeist compelled the
Church to go beyond motherhood statements,” Lacierda said in a tweet
“This is a courageous act, a battle between principles and
expediency. I know where I stand,” he said.
