Department of Foreign Affairs Secretary Teodoro
"Teddyboy" Locsin Jr. has slammed Vice President Leni Robredo
on Monday after the latter questioned the cancellation of all diplomatic
passports of former government officials.
Locsin called Robredo “boba” over her comments but
eventually said sorry for "being disrespectful."
"Will someone please do her the kindness to give her a
brain? Here I am trying to do what's right, which is to restrict diplomatic
passports to real existing working diplomats so as not to devalue them
abroad—and not pass them out as favors to retirees and friends," Locsin
said in a twitter post.
"Hey boba, that is precisely why I have ordered the
cancellation of all courtesy diplomatic passports because I refuse to single
out Del Rosario," he added
On a separate tweet, Locsin said; "I don't mean to be
disrespectful Ma'am. You are just a missing heartbeat away from the Presidency.
I respect you for that accident of fortune. But there are things that require a
measure of study and thought. Please ask me next time. At your service,
Ma'am,"
"That’s no way for a gentleman to speak to a lady.
Apologies," he also said
Locsin’s outburst came after Robredo called out the Duterte administration of resorting to a “knee-jerk reaction” such as canceling the diplomatic
passports of former government officials.
Robredo slammed the said policy right after former Foreign
Secretary Albert del Rosario’s detention and denial of entry by Hong Kong
immigration on Friday.
Del Rosario, a top diplomat during the presidency of Benigno
Aquino III, was carrying a diplomatic passport when he flew to Hong Kong for a
business meeting.
There was no report yet stating the reason why Del Rosario
was barred from entering the special administrative region of China.
Together with former Ombudsman Conchita Carpio Morales, Del
Rosario filed a complaint against Chinese President Xi Jinping for alleged crimes
against humanity.
