Manila, Philippines – Vice President and Liberal Party (LP)
Chairman Leni Robredo, said that Senator Kiko Pangilinan has freed any
responsibility of Otso Diretso’s senatorial slate loss in the midterm election
even if he was the LP campaign manager.
Robredo
said in an interview last Saturday, June 8, the opposition prepared an
unbeatable campaign so the candidates’ loss should not be blamed on Pangilinan
and the Liberal Party’s secretary general, Quezon City Rep. Kit Belmonte.
“[F]rom
the very start naman we were fully aware of how… ‘di ba? Parang seemingly insurmountable
iyong… iyong ano…pero sinubukan pa din,” she said during an interview in a film
festival in Quezon City.
Pangilinan
and Belmonte offered their resignation as party officials after the election
results. However, Robredo did not accept the said resignation and she
interpreted the gesture as a “very noble way
of accepting responsibility.”
“Hindi nila kasalanan. Puwedeng maraming
pagkukulang, pero hindi siya kasalanan noong dalawa,” Robredo said, as
backed up even by the members of LP’s national council and disagree with
Pangilinan and Belmonte’s resignation.
As
previously reported by KAMI, Pangilinan announced that he already handed over
his resignation to Robredo. He said that he took full responsibility of Otso
Diretso’s defeat in the recent mid-term polls.
