President Rodrigo Duterte hits Senator Panfilo Lacson on Tuesday claiming the senator had an eagerness to comment on every issue and was trying to be a crusader but ignorant.

Duterte cautioned Lacson to be more circumspect particularly because the senator wants to run for President.

Lacson reacted on the issue and admitted he felt insulted after President Rodrigo Duterte described him as someone “trying to be a crusader but ignorant.”

The former Police chief said in an interview over dzMM on Wednesday (September 11), he said, educates himself on issues he comments about.

“Nang sinabi niya ignorante ako hindi ko matanggap ‘yan. Marunong ako magbasa ng batas at marunong ako mag-intindi. Medyo masakit sa tenga,” he said.

The chief executive lambasted Lacson in a speech in Malacañang Tuesday (September 10) after recalling the comments that the senator and Vice President Leni Robredo on the issue that there was nothing wrong with policemen receiving gifts, especially from people expressing their gratitude.

“His penchant to just right away — – in every issue dito, I think he’s running for President,” Duterte said of Lacson.

“But I would caution him to be more circumspect because pagdating ng panahon ‘yan, ‘yan ang magagamit ng mga ano niya, mga kalaban niya. Sheer ignorance. Trying — trying to be a crusader but ignorant,” the President added.

However, Lacson said, he knows where he speaks, he used to be chief of the Philippine National Police, a law enforcer for 30 years and twice elected lawmaker, said he only commented on issues he knew about.

He further said, that he only comments on the issues when he was asked and not even all the time. He just shrugs off the issues he is unfamiliar with.

“I may not be a lawyer, but I know how to read and understand the law that I read, or ask my lawyer-staff when I don’t,” he said.

“Sabi niya okay kumita [nang] extra sa video karera. Sabi ko teka muna. Sa tweet ko [noong] August 10, I was referring to the extra cash from video karera. Galing ako sa PNP. bawal tumanggap ng ilegal,” Lacson said.

While Lacson believes he and Duterte are still friends, he said some of the President’s remarks are uncalled for.

Asked if his relationship with Duterte was complicated, Lacson said: “Wala akong planong makipag-away sa kanya. Tayo marunong tumanaw ng utang na loob. Marunog makipag-kaibigan. Pero huwag naman ako insultuhin because I’ll insult you back.”
