Senator
Panfilo Lacson said that charges filed by the government against detained
Senator Leila De Lima could weaken due to transfer of the 10 convicts from the
New Bilibid Prison (NBP) to a Marine barracks in Taguig City.
Seven
out of the 10 high-profiled inmates are drug lords who are witnesses against De
Lima.
Lacson
said that transferring the inmates to the Marine barracks could be interpreted
as a reward or a privilege.
“Galing
ka sa Building 14, maximum security facility tapos malipat ka sa bungalow sa
Marine compound sa Fort Bonifacio. Siyempre doon hindi na natin alam anong
nangyayari roon. Pribilehiyo ‘yan,” the senator said
“The
mere fact they were transferred from a maximum security facility na talagang
miserable ang buhay tapos mapupunta ka sa lugar na medyo maraming privilege at
magaan, siyempre parang yun na yun. Kaya sa halip na magpalakas ng kaso laban
sa nasasakdal, in this case, Leila De Lima, baka lalong humina pa,” Lacson said
The
convicts who were transferred from the Bilibid are: Hans Tan, Peter Co,
Jojo Baligad, Vicente Sy, Froilan Trestiza, Nonilo Arile, and Joel Capones.
Meanwhile,
President Rodrigo Duterte said it was his prerogative as Chief Executive to
order the transfer of high profile convicts who had testified against De Lima.
“There’s
an issue that there were others in the penitentiary (NBP) in Muntinlupa. I
transferred them to the Marines. Why? Because I was scared that De Lima still
has people inside there, and these witnesses and those who are there will be
killed inside,” the President said in remarks at the groundbreaking for the
relocation site intended for earthquake victims in Naga City, Cebu.
“Pagdating
ng panahon, wala nang magsasabi ng totoo. Sasabihin ko sa inyo, akin ‘yan. Ako
ang nag-utos niyan (When time comes, nobody will tell the truth. I will tell
you, that’s mine. I ordered that),” he said
