Vice President Leni Robredo October 18 showed confidence with the initial result of the recount of votes of former senator Bongbong Marcos’ electoral protest against her.
Robredo said, the initial
results only “ prove who was lying”, and it only showed she had widened her
lead over rival Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr.
The Supreme Court (SC) said that she even increased her lead over the Ilocos Norte politician by more than
15,000 votes.
The Presidential Electoral Tribunal (PET), reported the initial result of vote recount conducted in the three pilot provinces Marcos had
chosen in the petition he filed against Robredo.
These were Negros Oriental, Iloilo, and Camarines Sur, the
Vice President’s home province.
“This proves who was telling the truth and who was lying,” said Robredo in her Twitter post on Friday.
The report showed Robredo now has 1,510,178 votes from the 3
provinces while Marcos’ 204,512 votes.
In 2016, Robredo got 1,493,517 votes in these areas against
Marcos’ who only got 202,136 votes.
Robredo defeated Marcos by just 263,473 votes in the vice-presidential elections in 2016.
This prompted Marcos to accuse cheating and file an
electoral protest against Robredo.
Currently, Robredo's lead in the national count increases to
278,566 votes.
