Manila, Philippines – Senator Panfilo
Lacson has recently tweeted a warning against United States lawmaker, Senator
Patrick Leahy regarding his alleged intervention in the country’s political affairs.
In his latest Twitter post,
Sen. Lacson told Senator Leahy to respect the Philippines’ justice system.
“NAKAKAPIKON KA NA MR. LEAHY!
RESPECT OUR COURTS,” Sen. Lacson tweeted.
“OUR CRIMINAL JUSTICE SYSTEM
MAY NOT BE PERFECT BUT SO ARE YOU,” he added.
The US Senator said in a statement, the detained opposition
senator Leila de Lima should be given a fair trial and must be released immediately.
Earlier, Leahy was one of the US legislators whom President
Rodrigo Duterte ordered barred from entering the Philippines.
He has called foul over the latter’s threat to require
American citizens to secure a visa before entering the Philippines.
“Rather than responding by irrationally
threatening to deny visas to American citizens, the Duterte government should
either release Senator De Lima immediately or provide her the fair, public trial
she is entitled to,” Leahy said.
Leahy camp’s supposedly
used as a basis in calling for de Lima’s release the ” findings from various
human rights organizations, US State Department and the United Nations that the
lady lawmaker was a victim of unlawful detention and prosecution.”
He also bared that de
Lima’s imprisonment, as well as the threats against Rappler’s Maria Ressa.
“You are
not perfect, Mr. Leahy!” Said Lacson, seemingly fed-up with the alleged interference
of some US Senators with De Lima's imprisonment.
