Senator Sonny Angara recently made
an urgent appeal to President Duterte to reconsider his opposition to the
renewal of the ABS-CBN franchise, which will end next month.
The veteran politician tweeted
last Saturday, January 25, “Sana
mapagbigyan ng mahal na pangulo.”.
Duterte has been vocal about
his promise that he will block the franchise renewal of the giant network in
the country.
The chief executive not only
accused biased reporting from the Kapamilya network but also for supposedly
failing to air his paid political advertisement during 2016 presidential polls.
The top television network owned
by the Lopezes may shut down its operation if its franchise to operate will not
be renewed by Congress.
The Kapamilya network chances
of having its franchise renewed remains uncertain, as both President Duterte
and Speaker Alan Peter Cayetano, have aversions against the country’s giant
network.
While Cayetano was the President’s running mate also accused
vice-presidential candidates were given unfair airtime given by the network.
Senator Angara’s better-half,
Tootsy who happens to be an ABS-CBN sales executive. He was first elected to
the Senate of the Philippines in 2013 and re-elected for the second consecutive term
placing sixth with 18,161,862 votes in the July 2019 election.
