President Rodrigo Duterte in a speech during an event today, he mentioned about what could have been if he
was granted the emergency powers to solve the EDSA’s worst traffic situation.
He has been wanting to solve the
traffic problem in the Metro since the first day he assumed the highest office in
the country in 2016.
Duterte
said, “Simply stated, you can buy the materials, labor, or even the experts,
the technical, walang bidding. Mamadalian na eh because there’s a crisis. Alam
mo may isang magandang senadora na bright masyado nagsabi, ‘Ah hindi ‘yan. Sa
kalaking pera niyan baka ma-corrupt ‘yan’,”
“Eh
ako ditong nakikinig, hindi naman niya ako kilala, pero alam niya na tinulungan
ko siya noon sa eleksyon niya. Sabi niya, ‘Yan baka ma-corrupt’. Ah kasi
ma-corrupt? ‘Okay ‘wag na. Magawa na ako ng iba’. So dito ako, sa taas, what
did I say about EDSA? ‘Let EDSA rot’. Bahala kayo diyan. Pagdating ng panahon I
will name the lady, talagang paspasan ko siya,” he said.
As
we can recall, Senator Poe, led the Senate inquiry regarding the worsening
traffic situation especially in Edsa and requested Transport Secretary Arthur
Tugade to give a solid traffic plan.
However, Sec, Tugade insisted the administration's
request for emergency powers in solving the traffic issue is needed.
“It
is because of your lack of faith in your fellowmen. And when you begin to think
that you are the only honest official of the land by this year… Anong
ipinagmamalaki mo? Expertise in politics? Why are you there? Is that the only
credi…? Because of your name, you have a name also? You cannot have your own?” The
chief executive added.
