Nograles: Most Cabinet members to donate 75% of monthly pay to govt. efforts for duration of COVID-19 crisis

Cabinet Secretary Karlo Nograles revealed on Saturday that majority of Cabinet members have pledged to voluntarily donate 75 percent of their monthly salary to aid the government’s fight against the COVID-19.

“Karamihan na mga miyembro ng gabinete ni pangulong Duterte ay boluntaryong ibibigay ang 75 percent ng kanilang buwanang sahod upang ilaan sa mga programa ng gobyerno upang sugpuin ang COVID-19 sa panahong ipinapatupad ang Bayanihan [to Heal As One Act],”  Nograles announed during the Inter-Agency Task Force for Emerging Infectious Diseases briefing.


Nograles was referring to the Republic Act 11469, or the Bayabihan to Heal As One Law, the same law that gave special powers to President Rodrigo Duterte.

He also said that some of the top officials in the executive branch will donate a huge chunk of their monthly salary until December this year.

The Cabinet members are under the salary grade 31, which composed of department secretaries, executive secretary, director general of the National Economic and Development Authority and Commission on Higher Education chairperson.

Most of them, based on the first tranch of a law granting wage increases to government employees are mostly receiving between ₱262,965 and ₱301,095 monthly.


As of Saturday, April 4, the country's number of COVID-19 cases has climbed up to 3,018 with 136 deaths and 52 recoveries.
