Foreign Affairs Teodoro Locsin Jr. shared his opinion on the
former president’s stand regarding the recent closure order of the biggest TV
network in the country.
For Secretary Locsin, the ABS-CBN franchise renewal bill was
pending way back former President Noynoy Aquino’s term, but he allegedly did
not do anything about it.
Locsin has accused Aquino of refusing to support the renewal
of franchise of the Lopez-owned network during his administration.
He called the former chief executive “ungrateful” for withholding
the network’s franchise renewal especially since the network endorsed him win
in the 2010 elections.
The former presidential spokesperson during the late Cory
Aquino’s term, said that Noynoy has escaped the blame for the network’s closure
as ordered by the National Telecommunications Commission due to an expired
franchise.
He is just perplexed as to why Noynoy should also be blamed for
he did not vouched ABS-CBN’s renewal during his term when the Kapamilya network
supported his way to the Malacanang.
“Noynoy refused to renew the franchise. Was he wrong? Yes
& ungrateful. I wanted Lopezes to get it renewed under him because he owed
his election to their stupendous coverage of Cory’s funeral. And he escapes
blame? Maybe he had a negative—even if I believe wrong—view of ABSCBN,” Locsin
tweeted.
Locsin said it was
Congress that did not pass the franchise renewal of the network and came in to
defend President Duterte from the ABS-CBN dilemma.
“Noynoy flat out rejected the early renewal of the
ABSCBN franchise. Maybe he thought when he was in power what Duterte thought as
well,” he tweeted.
“Thank God Duterte changed his mind though Congress did not
cooperate,” he said.
During Noynoy Aquino's administration, he also had
a love-hate relationship with the media. He previously criticized the media for
alleged inaccurate and negative reporting.
In one instance, Noynoy attended TV Patrol’s 25th anniversary in 2012 as the special guest of honor of the event.
PNoy as the people calls him, criticized the local media over alleged negative stories about his administration.
Aquino
also vented his disdain on former Vice President and TV Patrol anchor Noli de Castro
over his critical reporting during the network’s event.

Instead of pointing fingers, why not just quietly pass the ABSCBN franchise bill, just pass it. Senate will pass it too. Spare everyone the bullshet. https://t.co/jMKZlhJbBx— Teddy Locsin Jr. (@teddyboylocsin) May 7, 2020
