Ayon kay Lingayen Dagupan Archbishop Socrates Villegas ang pang tanggi ng Kongreso na bigyan muli ng prangkisa ang ABS CBN ang 'nagsira ng tiwala ng mga tao sa mga gingawa ng gobyerno.'
Sa isang pahayag, sinabi ng dating pinuno ng Catholic Bishops Conference of the Philippines (CBCP) na ang mga miyembro ng House of Representative ay dapat naging responsable sa paggamit ng kanilang kapangyarihan.
"The President’s threats to close the station are a matter of public record. Now that the matter of the franchise has been dealt a final blow by the Lower House, can our people be blamed for the perception that Congress, supposedly a fiercely independent body of the people’s representatives, has bent over in subservience to the President?" ayon kay Villegas
"All power comes from God and therefore must be wielded responsibly. The exercise of power must always be ordered towards the common good." dagdag niya
Matapos ang 12 mahahabang pag dinig, nadesisyunan na ang pagbibigay ng prangkisa sa higanteng network.
Sa naging botohan, 70 ang pabor na hindi bigyan ng prangkisa ang ABS CBN, 11 naman ang bomotong dapat bigyan ng pagkakataon ang kumpanya.
Sinabi ni Villegas na pinagdamutan umano ng House panel ang mga tao na magkaroon ng source ng impormasyon lalo na sa gitna ng pandemya.
"Another channel of free expression is killed as if we have not killed enough of our countrymen," aniya
Ayon pa sa kanya, balang araw ay magkakaroon ng paninigil para sa mahihirap at nangangailangan na nasaktan.
"Whatever we do to the poor and to the needy, we do to Christ. And there will be a day of judgment for our crimes against the poor and the needy,"
"Nasa Diyos ang awa nasa tao ang gawa. Kailan pa tayo kikilos upang isagawa ang ipinagdarasal? Hindi natututulog ang Diyos. Hindi rin dapat matulog ang pagiging Kristiyano sa anumang panahon at sa lahat ng pagkakataon," ani Villegas
