Lawyer Edwin Lacierda slammed Presidential Spokesman Harry Roque in response to Roque’s quick dispute of WHO’s observation on the COVID-19 situation in the Philippines.
"Of course, you can disagree. That’s your right. But ask ko lang, how will you disagree with the facts laid out?" Lacierda captioned on Twitter sharing Roque's statement
Lacierda expects Roque to disagree even though the facts are already presented. For him, Roque will once again use the alternate facts and geography to wiggle his way out.
"With alternative facts? With alternative geography?" he said "Pare, hindi bobo ang Pilipino."
Earlier, Roque earned flak online over the triumpant announcement that the country was "beating" the prediction of University of the Philippines (UP) researchers that the Philippines could have 40,000 cases of coronavirus cases by end of June.
In a televised press briefing, Presidential spokesman Harry Roque raised his fist up in victory and declared that the country was “winning” the fight against the new coronavirus disease.
“We did not hit 40,000 or we will not hit 40,000 by end of June which is only a few days which is what two days? One day? Today is the last day na pala! Ano bang sinasabi ko. Wala na po, panalo na tayo (What I am saying. It’s over. We won),” Roque said
“We beat the UP prediction. We beat it! So congratulations, Philippines! Let’s do it again in July,” he added.
On Wednesday, Roque clarified what he meant by his statement.
“Medyo slow sila to gets. Hindi po talaga UP ang kalaban,” he said in an interview on GMA’s Unang Hirit.
“Hindi po UP ang kaaway; ang kaaway po natin ay Covid-19. Kaya nga lang po ginagamit po ng UP ang mathematical models para mag-forecast kung ilan sa atin ang magkakaroon ng Covid-19,” the official stressed.
